#213: Elope

Josh was lost in thought as the tram ambled down St Kilda Road.

On the side of the road, a large machine was demolishing what had been a Pizza Hut. It had been the place he and Tracey had, all those years ago, had their first date. Why on earth did they go there? he asked himself.

They were both no older than sixteen. They were timid as they sat opposite each other. There had been an all-you-can-eat buffet.

Had they been with others? The memory is distant. He felt nostalgic now as the restaurant was being torn down, but how many times had he gone past and felt nothing, remembered nothing when it was still there?

They had been with a group of friends, possibly to see a film at the cinema nearby and the two of them snuck away and went to the last place anyone would think to look for them.
